My Table
Comments = Love
I was sixteen when he came to my room the first time. At the time, Zac was only a baby still, not having reached his fourteenth birthday yet and wouldn’t for some time. He came into my room and sat at the foot of my bed.
“Tay?” he asked. I raised an eyebrow to let him know I was listening, but didn’t take my eyes from my book. “Have you… have you ever kissed anybody?” This time I put my book down.
I smirked at my younger brother. “Aw, does Zaccy have a crush?” I teased. Zac pouted his plush little lips.
“Not funny,” he muttered.
“Oh, c’mon, Zac. You know I’m just teasing. Now what’s with the question?” I asked genuinely curious.
Zac blushed a bright red and rubbed the back of his neck nervously. “I just… wanna know. Have you?” He looked up at me then.
“Yeah, I’ve kissed a girl.” I smiled. “A couple of girls actually.”
“What’s it like?”
I made a face at my little brother. “I don’t know. Why are you asking all these questions?”
He looked away and I could tell he was embarrassed. “C’mon, Zac. You know you can tell me anything. Now what is it?” Zac quickly mumbled something that I didn’t understand.
I chuckle quietly. “What?”
Zac huffed and crossed his arms over his already broad chest. “Just forget it,” he said, getting up to leave. I quickly grabbed him by the wrist and tugged him back down on to my bed.
“I wasn’t laughing at you,” I told him. “I was laughing because you were mumbling and talking so fast I didn’t understand you.” Zac looked up at me with big, brown puppy-dog eyes.
“Promise?” I made an ‘x’ over my heart and nod. Zac sighed. “I… I think I wanna kiss someone,” he said quietly.
“Aw, Zac,” I chuckled.
“Forget it, Tay,” he muttered going to leave again. I tugged him back to the bed once again.
“I’m not laughing,” I assured him. “I think it’s cute that you finally want to get cuddly with someone.”
“Ta-ay,” Zac whined. I giggled a little.
“Sorry. Now what do you need to know?”
Zac’s face turned bright red again. “I um… I was just… Never mind, it’s not important.” He quickly changed his mind.
“C’mon, Zaccy, this is what you’re supposed to talk about with your big brother,” I told him. “Lets just start with what her name is? Then we’ll work up to the big question.”
“I can’t tell you,” he murmured.
I frowned. “Why not?”
“Because… It’s not a girl,” he told me. I was little shocked to hear that, but when I thought about it, it kind of made sense. Zac did seem to be a little flirty with boys. But then again he was thirteen and feelings are mixed up at that age.
“So you want to kiss a boy?” I asked for clarification. Zac nodded. “Well, who is he?” Then I quickly add, “I promise I won’t tell. Or laugh.”
Zac looked up at me with teary eyes. “Promise?” I nodded, stroking his hair.
“Don’t cry,” I murmured and kissed his forehead.
When I looked down at my little brother again, his eyes are closed and there’s a more peaceful look on his face. “Who is it, buddy? What’s his name?” His lips move, but I don’t quite hear him. “Speak up, Zac.”
Zac took a shaky breath and opened his eyes to look at me. “Taylor,” he said.
“Yeah…?” I was a little puzzled.
Zac shook his head. “No. I mean, Taylor.” He looked at me pleadingly, just hoping I’d understand and he wouldn’t have to explain. After a moment it hits me. He wanted to kiss me!
“Are-are you sure?” I stuttered. Zac nodded, wiping at his face.
I couldn’t help but stare at my younger brother. He looked scared and helpless. I know he was depending on me, his big brother. So I did the only thing I could think of at the time. I cupped his face gently in my hands, stroking my thumbs back and forth on his chubby little cheeks. “Are you sure?” I asked again.
Zac nodded. “I’m sure, Tay. Please kiss me. Just once. I-I wanna know what it feels like.” I nodded and licked my lips nervously. I had butterflies in my stomach. Back then I didn’t know why. But now I do.
I leaned in slowly and pressed my lips lightly to Zac’s.
To my surprise, Zac kissed back eagerly, cupping the back of my neck, his fingers curling in the hair there. I suppressed a moan and began to gently move my lips against his. My little brother followed my lead until the next thing I knew, we were laying on the bed shirtless and quite breathless.
I finally pulled back from him and he laid his head on my heaving chest.
“So that’s what it’s like to be kissed,” he murmured. I nodded, wrapping my arms around him loosely.
“How was it?” I asked, mentally crossing my fingers. Zac buried his face in my neck at the question. “Zac?”
“I… I think I really like you, Tay,” he told me. My heart fluttered in my chest and my stomach flipped.
“Really?”
Zac nodded. “Yeah, I do.”
“That’s the best thing I’ve heard all day.”
From there, our relationship developed to what it is today: pure love and affection. I’m glad he came to me that day. I’m glad he spoke up. I’m not sure if I would have ever realized my feelings for him otherwise. I love my brother and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
