CHAPTER THREE

ZAC'S POV

Dear Journal,
We've been on tour now for almost a week. We've played four shows and have hosted four barefoot walks. Altho, as Isaac puts it, I've been "drooling" over Mel since her band auditioned for  our opening act, I think I've switched gears a bit. There's been this girl at every walk. She has pretty, sandy hair. She usually wears darkly tinted sunglasses, but the other day she was wearing glasses and I caught a glimpse of her eyes. They're a green color with gold flecks. I admit: I used my camera to zoom in on her. Stalker much? Maybe. She's so different from Mel who's all black/pink hair and bright blue eyes.

Believe it or not, I haven't talked to the Un-Mel. I know I'm usually so confident when it comes to talking to people. It comes from all those years of interviews and talking to fans that are complete strangers. - Altho, I've met some of them so many times they don't feel like strangers anymore. - This girl is different. I see her and my palms get sweaty. She gives me butterflies in my stomach. There's just something about her, I can't explain it.

If she's here today, I vow to go up to her, say "hi" and introduce myself. I need to know who she is.

THE END.

& & &

Just as I finish with my journal entry, I'm advised that we're meeting for the walk. I tuck my journal into my bag and grab my camera. Then I make my way to find my brothers.

To get to our fans we have to go down a flight of outside stairs. As I reach the bottom step, Taylor trips and knocks into me from behind. Typical Taylor. I go down hard... right on top of a fan.

"Oh my god! Zac! Are you okay?!" Taylor exclaims.

"I'm fine," I call back to him giving a little wave.

I prop myself up on my elbows and look down at the fan. I smile, it's the Un-Mel.

"Hey," I murmur shyly.

"Hey," she replies.

"Are you okay?" I ask her.

"I can't move," she says. Panic rises in my chest.

"Oh my god. You could have a spinal cord injury. Don't move. I know you can't move, but don't try to move," I tell her frantically. She laughs and takes my face in her small hands.

"Zac, I can't move because you're on top of me."

"Oh... Oh!" I scramble to a sitting position and help her sit up.

We look at each other for a moment, then I say, "I'm Zac." She blushes slightly. "And you already knew that." She tilts her head to the side.

"Yeah, but it's nice you didn't assume. I'm Olivia, by the way." I smirk.

"Oh-livia?"

"Most people say Uh-livia. My name is spelled with an 'O' not an 'A'. It's Oh-livia. Or Liv. Or Livvie. Really, I'll answer to just about anything." She shrugs and I can't help the grin that comes over my face.

"Well, it's nice to meet you, Olivia," I tell her.

"The pleasure's all mine," she replies.

Olivia and I stick close throughout the walk. We talk off and on. I would have loved to talk to her the entire time, but there are fans to contend with. I like that she understands that face and lets them come and go as they please. She even lets them in on our conversations. The more time I spend with her, the more I like her.

When the walk and the end-of-walk-speech are done, I turn to Olivia.

"So, um, you wanna come in and hang out for a while?" I ask shyly. The sandy-haired girl smiles apologetically.

"I'd love to, but I have a few things to do before the show starts," she says.

"Oh." I look away so she won't see the disappointment clearly written on my face.

A moment later a small, soft hand slips into my larger, rougher one. I turn back to Olivia then.

"Hey," she says softly. "It's not you. I just have things that need to get done before the concert. But I'll be back. I'll be back the whole tour."

"What do you mean?" I ask. She twists her mouth up and tucks her hair behind her ear, clearly stalling.

"Lets just say... I'm kind of touring with you guys. I'll be at every walk and every show for this tour." I smile.

"Really?"

"Cross my heart." She draws an "x" over her heart with a finger.

"Zac! Lets go!" Isaac calls to me.

I reach for Olivia, hugging her tightly.

"I'll see you later," I murmur, kissing her on the cheek.

"Yeah, later," she replies. I grin at her, then quickly head up the stairs of the venue. I'm definitely going to enjoy this tour.

MEL'S POV

I hurry on to the bus, late...again.

"Where have you been?!" Aaron exclaims. "We're going to be late for sound check!"

"I know, I know. Just help me get my wig on," I reply.

As my best friend tugs my fake hair into place, I mutter, "I feel like frickin' Hannah Montana." Aaron grins at me.

"Hannah Montana should be saying she feels like Mel Lucas. You're the original wig-wearer ya know," he says.

"Yeah, but she made it famous," I reply.

"Yeah, but you have better reasons for wearing it."

I sigh. "Lets get to sound check before Chuck goes ape-shit."

"Yes, lets." Aaron takes my hand, leading me off the bus and into the venue.
