CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE
Zac's POV
When we finally got home around six that night, Taylor headed straight for the bedroom. I shake my head, grinning, and follow my boyfriend to the back of the apartment. Once there, I find Taylor curled up on my side of the bed, his face buried in my pillow.
I quietly make my way over to the bed and gently climb on top of it. I crawl over to my brother and nuzzle his neck.
"Miss me?" I ask.
Taylor turns on to his back to see me, still clutching my pillow.
"I missed you lots," he tells me seriously.
"I missed you more," I tell him, leaning in close.
"I missed you the most," Taylor replies. I give him a short smile before pressing my lips to his in a slow, gentle kiss.
Then we arrange ourselves in a comfortable cuddling position with Taylor laid between my legs, his head on my chest. We lay in this position for a while, a comfortable silence surrounding us. But when I get sick of the same words repeating in my head, I wanna grow old with you, I break our comfortable silence.
I twist a piece of my brother's hair around my finger.
"Tay?"
"Hmm?"
"I wanna grow old with you too," I tell him quietly. Taylor squeezes me around my middle.
"Do you really?" he asks.
"'Course I do, Tay," I assure him gently. "You're all I've ever wanted."
"Oh, Zac," Taylor murmurs, nuzzling his face against my neck.
I continue playing with Taylor's hair as I once again speak.
"Remember what you told me earlier? About having it all?" I ask. Taylor nods against my shoulder. "I want it too," I tell him. "I want the house with the picket fence. And the huge yard for the two kids and three dogs to play in. I want that nice little neighborhood to be our nice little neighborhood."
Taylor lifts his head to look at me. There are tears in his bright blue eyes.
"Really?" he whispers and he sounds almost hopeful. I nod, brushing a piece of his hair from his eyes.
"I really do."
A tear spills over, rolling down my brother's cheek.
"I love you, Zac. I really do," he tells me. I swipe at the lone salty water drip and smile.
"I know you do, Tay," I assure him. "And I love you much more than you know." Taylor shakes his head, wiping at his eyes.
"No, Zac. I know how much you love me and sometimes I don't think I deserve it," he says.
"Oh, Tay," I murmur, taking his face in my hands and tilting it down to kiss his forehead. "You deserve it," I whisper.
Taylor sighs and rests his cheek against my chest. I move my fingers through his soft blond locks, my eyelids sliding shut.
"Zac?" Taylor whispers.
"Mmm, yeah?"
"Even though it's not legal and the only ones who we could really tell are JD, Andy and Isaac, if I asked you to marry me, would you say yes?" my brother asks. I smirk, knowing he's not looking.
"Why don't you just ask and find out?" I retort.
Then I hear a sniffle.
"'Cause I'm scared you'll say no," Taylor tells me. I frown.
"Hey. Look at me," I command quietly. My blue-eyed angel lifts his head, confirming my fear: he's crying. "Aw, baby. Why are you crying?" I ask, wiping his tears with my thumbs.
Taylor sniffs again, looking at my chest, and shrugs.
"I'm really insecure," he answers, laughing a little. I grin.
"Yeah, you are!" I agree. Taylor looks up at me with a smile.
"So? Will you?"
"Will I what?" I tease. Taylor laughs and slaps my shoulder playfully.
"Zac!" he exclaims.
"What?" I ask, feigning innocence. "If I'm going to be proposed to, I want it done right, damnit!" My brother grins, a sparkle in his eyes.
"Then sit up, damnit!" he replies.
I sit up slowly, turning to swing my legs over the side of the bed as Taylor moves off the mattress. Then he kneels in front of me, taking both my hands in his. He looks up at me with the most serious expression on his face.
"Zac, you are everything I never knew I wanted, or needed. You're my brother and my best friend and I love you so much."
Tears are filling Taylor's eyes making them glitter like diamonds. He sniffles and looks down at our hands for a moment, then back up at me.
"We've been together for almost eighteen years now, since the day you were born. But the last few months as your boyfriend have been the best, well, ya know, 'cept for this fight—"
"Taylor!" I exclaim, laughing. "I said I wanted it done right, not long-winded!" My brother grins sheepishly, a tear rolling down his cheek. I wipe at it gently.
"I love you, Zachary Hanson. Will you marry me?" he finally asks.
Hearing Taylor say the actual words is too much for me. In a blink of an eye, tears are streaming down my face. I grin at my brother, noticing his face is wet too.
"Does this make me the girl?" I ask. Taylor laughs and shakes his head.
"Not if you don't want it to," he answers.
"Good. 'Cause I don't think I can walk in heels," I reply. Taylor laughs again.
"Does this mean you'll marry me?" I tackle my brother, both of us landing on the floor, and wrap my arms and legs around him.
"Yes! Yes! Yes! A thousand times yes!"
