Title: Slow Down My Bleeding Heart (1/?)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] writefiction
Pairing: Taylor Hanson/OFC (Julie Donovan)
Rating: PG-ish?
Disclaimor: Do not know or own. This is completely fiction. I only own the town of Fallstead. I made it up. :D
Summary: Taylor's former lover calls after a year of not speaking. Does Julie have the courage to tell him the secret she'd been keeping from him? What will Taylor do when he finds out? Can they manage to heal their broken hearts?
Note: Yes, I know, it's a het fic. What's wrong with me? Anyway, I started writing this story forever ago. I found it last week and decided to continue it. And I will continue to post my Seb/Benji story, if anyone actually reads that anymore. Comments are always appreciated.

CHAPTER ONE

July 2003
Julie stared at the phone, which she had set on the coffee table. Then she looked down at the sleeping bundle in her arms. Had it really been four months ago that she had given birth to this now nine pound baby girl? Indeed it had. Now she almost had the courage to call the unsuspecting father. At least she had the phone in front of her this time. Now all she had to do was dial.

Her plan was to call Taylor's cell phone. She was least likely to get a family member that way. But she was nervous. Very nervous. She hadn't spoken to Taylor in eleven months, since Baby Grace was only the size of a small troll doll inside her.

Julie had known Taylor for three years. They had dated for eight months, (right up until the wedding) while Taylor also dated Natalie. Julie had known about the other girlfriend, though she had never been sure if Natalie had been aware that Taylor was seeing two girls. Julie and Taylor had spent most of their time together in Fallstead, where Julie lived, two and a half hours away from Taylor's place in NYC. Their last night together as boyfriend and girlfriend was the night Julie conceived, two days before Taylor's wedding. She had found out about two months later and never told him.

Although the couple had stopped dating, they had wanted to remain friends. But almost immediately after the wedding, Julie started making excuses for not seeing Taylor. Soon they started to see less of each other. Then the phone calls stopped.

Coming back to the present, Julie took a deep breath and hit the speaker phone button. Then she dialed the number she knew by heart. The phone rang twice before a female voice answered.

"Hello?" Julie was surprised.

"Jess?"

"Yes. Who is this?" Jessica asked. Julie took another deep breath and said,

"It's Julie Donovan. Is Taylor there?"

"Julie!" Jessica exclaimed. "Oh my god! Taylor's going to flip when he hears it's you! Hold on!" Then the line was silent.

A moment later Taylor's voice came over the phone.

"Jules!" Julie's heart skipped a beat.

"Hey, Taylor," she said quietly.

"Are you okay?" Taylor asked. "You sound funny." Julie thought up an excuse.

"You're on speaker-phone. I've kinda go my hands full." She looked down at Grace, who was still asleep.

"Julie...How are you? What have you been up to? I've missed you," Taylor said. Julie thought she was going to cry.

"I've missed you too," she replied quietly. "I've uh, been busy. I'm guessing you have too with your son and all." Taylor grinned and said,

"Yeah. Being a father is great. I'm really enjoying it."

"That's good," Julie replied.

Just then, little Grace started to wail. Julie fixed her shirt so she could let Grace nurse. As soon as the baby's mouth was full, she quieted.

"Sorry," Julie said. "She's just hungry."

"Is she yours?" Taylor asked. Julie hesitated before answering.

"Yes."

"Congratulations! How old is she? What's her name?" Taylor asked enthusiastically.

"Thanks," Julie responded. "She'll be four months tomorrow. And her name is Grace Marie Donovan." There was a pause, then Taylor asked,

"Why doesn't she have her father's last name?" Julie sighed quietly.

"He's not around. Hasn't been for a long time."

"Why not?"

"He has a career and a family to take care of," Julie explained. "I doubt there's any room in his life for the two of us." There was another pause in the conversation.

Taylor spoke up.

"Who is he?" Julie bit her lip.

"It doesn't matter," she said quietly. "Besides, he doesn't even know he's the father."

"You didn't tell him?!" Taylor exclaimed. For the second time, Julie thought she was going to cry.

"No," she said quietly. Taylor could tell Julie was upset so he used a more gentle tone.

"Why didn't you tell him?" he asked. Julie took a calming breath and said,

"Because he married someone else." A light went off in Taylor's head.

"Am...Am I the father?" he asked. Julie panicked.

"I gotta go."

"Julie, wait!" She hit the off button before Taylor could say more.

Julie burped Grace as the phone started to ring. She knew it was Taylor. As she changed Grace's wet diaper, Taylor's voice came from the answering machine.

"Julie, pick up. I know you're there. I just talked to you. PIck up." Taylor paused and sighed. "Call my cell ASAP." Then the answering machine clicked off.
