The 5 Senses

SOUND
I wake to the sound of his voice every morning. Sometimes he's singing in the shower. I swear he leaves the door open a crack just so I can hear him. Other times I can hear him yelling up the stairs for the kids to hurry or they'll miss the bus and he won't drive them. Once that is said, the sound of feet can be heard scrambling around. My favorite though is when I wake to the sound of him calling me beautiful and saying he loves me. Those mornings I wake with a smile on my face.

SMELL
The sense of smell is a very powerful thing. It can bring forth all kinds of emotions and memories. Like the smell of fresh-baked cookies always reminds me of being home with all my brothers and sisters at Christmas. It reminds me of stockings and Christmas dinner, classic holiday movies and wrapping presents. My favorite scent is that of my husband. The smell of his cologne and shampoo mixed together. The way he smells so clean and fresh right out of the shower. It provokes a fire in my belly that makes me need him desperately. I remember the first time we kissed. It was by accident after a concert and he smelled of sweat and passion. Passion for his music and a new-found passion for me.

SIGHT
Sight is an amazing thing. Some of my best memories have to do with seeing something for the first time. Like the first time I saw an ultrasound of every one of my babies. I had shed tears of joy for all of them. The first time I saw each of those babies born. Again, more tears. Or the huge smile on my husband's face on our wedding day. But my favorite sight is him. Just him. No matter how he looks; long hair, short hair, sweaty, freshly showered or just out of bed. The sight of him makes me shiver. Just his smile brightens the whole room.

TOUCH
Touch can be erotic and sensual. It can also portray love and kindness. On the other end of the spectrum it can be malicious and abusive, something I know a thing or two about. But those touches are just long-lost memories. My husband's touch is wonderful. His hands are large and calloused from years of playing musical instruments. You'd never know by looking at them how loving and gentle and soft his hands can be. His touch is magical, able to make a screaming baby quiet with just a belly rub. The way he plays with my hair, soft stroking motions, puts me to sleep within moments. His touch is also healing. He's bandaged my wounds on so many occaisions that I've lost count. He has dried my tears and soothed me with gentle caresses. He taught me to love again and trust again with the most intimate of touches. He saved my life with a kiss and a caress.

TASTE
I love the taste of chocolate and coffee. Especially when they're mixed together. Anything my mom cooks tastes amazing. An icecream sundae with warm peanut butter sauce, whipped cream and a cherry. I love the way my husband tastes when he kisses me, all sweet and sugary. The taste of his skin when we make love... Sigh. He's salty with sweat and tastes like the ocean. The taste of his lips can be comforting. But more often than not, the taste of him can ignite a spark of passion and lust so strong it's overwhelming. It's the one taste I can't get enough of.
