Summary: Kris plans to wallow in his misery. Adam’s not having it.
Kris had brought home a cube of beer from the market planning on wallowing in his misery on his first Valentine's Day as a single man. He was only on his second beer when there was a knock on the door. He ignored it. But then it came again, a little more insistent this time. Kris planned on ignoring it again but now there was yelling.
"Kris! Open the goddamn door already!" Of course it was Adam. He would be the only one to bug him on this specific date. "Open the door or I'm gonna use my key! And remember how much you hate that? Huh? Now hurry the fuck up! My hands are full!"
Kris sighed in defeat, pushing himself up off the leather couch. Maybe having Adam here wasn't such a bad idea. He'd probably be able to cheer him up and really, Kris wasn't so sure he wanted to deal with a hangover in the morning. Before Kris can reach the door, Adam shouts again. "KRIS MOTHER-FUCKING ALLEN! OPEN THE GODDAMN DOOR RIGHT FUCKING NOW!"
Kris wrenches the door open, planning on cursing out his best friend for yelling so loudly outside of his apartment, but is rendered speechless when he sees Adam with his arms full; a large paper bag that has something delicious-smelling in it in one hand and a large bouquet of flowers in the other. "Can you help a brother out?" Adam asks with a smirk. Kris nods, silently taking the bag of food. "I need a vase."
"I don't think I have one," Kris says.
"Thought that might be the case. Good thing I brought a back up," Adam replies pulling a large crystal vase from his messenger bag.
"Geez, what is that? Mary Poppins' magic carpet bag or something?" Kris asks.
"Or something," Adam says with a suggestive wink.
"You know, I was planning on getting drunk tonight," Kris tells his friend.
"Too bad, not gonna happen," Adam replies. "Now I've brought all the things for a good single man's Valentine's Day. I've got the food... Which I see you've discovered," Adam says as he watches Kris inhale a crab rangoon in one bite. Kris blushes, smiling sheepishly.
He swallows and shrugs. "Sorry. Couldn't help myself. It just smells so good and I can't remember if I've eaten anything today."
"S'okay," Adam replies, moving to the kitchen with the vase and flowers. "I ordered us enough that you'll have plenty of left-overs." He turns on the kitchen faucet and fills up the vase. Then he cuts the ends of the stems off the flowers and begins to arrange them in the vase while Kris gets out plates to put their food on.
"So what else did you bring for the perfect single man's Valentine's Day?" Kris asks spooning pork fried rice on to his plate.
"Well, I've got the food, flowers, movies, -- romantic comedies of course." He grins at the younger man who groans. "And the obvious..." He digs around in his bag and pulls out a heart-shaped box. "A box of chocolates." Kris rolls his eyes and hands Adam his chopsticks, getting a fork for himself. "You do know there's another set of chopsticks in there for you."
Kris makes a face. "You've never seen me use chopsticks, have you?" Adam shakes his head. "I get more food down my shirt than down my throat."
Adam snorts. "Now that's something I'd like to see."
"Dude, it would ruin the mood."
Adam raises an eyebrow at his friend. "The mood? And what mood would that be, Krissifer?"
Kris looks thoughtful for a moment and then shakes his head. "The mood is depressing so really, it wouldn't mess with the mood," he says leading Adam back to the living room.
"Oh come on now, Krissy, no depressing moods allowed," Adam says popping Ten Things I Hate About You in the DVD player.
"Speak for yourself," Kris grumbles, digging in to his food.
Adam makes his way over to the leather sofa and sits down next to his best friend, curling his long legs under him. "Seriously, Kris, tonight's going to be special."
"There's nothing special about tonight," Kris replies grimly.
Adam lays his hand on Kris' knee and gives it a squeeze. "Trust me, it's going to be special. How could it not be? We've got each other."
Kris looks at Adam out of the corner of his eye. "What's up with you? I thought you despised this holiday whenever you're single."
Adam smiles softly. "Lets just say I've had a change of heart this year."
Kris raises an eyebrow. "Care to tell?"
"Not now. Lets just eat and watch the movie," Adam says, obviously avoiding the question. But Kris doesn't say anything, just continues to enjoy his food and watch the TV screen.
When they're done having their fill of food, Kris gets up and brings their plates to the kitchen. "Don't you dare wash those!" Adam calls to him. "We'll do it later!" Kris rolls his eyes and dumps the plates in to the sink, wishing he could just give them a quick scrub. He hates leaving dirty dishes in the sink. With a sigh, he heads back to the living room.
Kris sits down on the couch and Adam pulls him to his side. Kris snuggles in to his best friend's warmth beginning to think that maybe this wasn't such a bad idea. When they get to the scene where Heath Ledger sings on the bleachers to Julia Stiles character, Adam begins to sing along, soft and low in Kris' ear. The breath ghosting over his skin sends a shiver down Kris' spine, a warm feeling settling in the pit of his stomach. He leans more in to Adam, enjoying the soft sound of the older man's voice in his ear.
When the scene's over and Adam stops singing, Kris sighs. "Thank you," he murmurs. Adam kisses his head in response, not say anything. By the time the movie is over, Kris is so comfortable laying length-wise on the sofa, practically on top of Adam, that he doesn't want either of them to move to put a new DVD in.
"Seriously, Kris, if you don't get up, I can't put the next movie in," Adam says.
"Don't care," Kris replies, nuzzling against Adam's shoulder. "Too comfy to move. Just play this movie again."
"Seriously?" Adam asks.
Kris nods. "Yeah, you can sing to me again."
Adam cards his hand through Kris' hair, hitting 'play' on the remote. "Oh, so you liked that, did you?" Kris nods. "Well, we'll see."
Kris pinches his friend. "You better sing again."
Adam laughs. "Oh alright. If it'll make you happy."
"Yes, very happy," Kris murmurs, watching the TV intently. As the singing scene nears, a feeling of giddiness washes over the man from Arkansas and the closer it gets, the more that feeling grows. Then it's finally time. Adam leans his mouth close to Kris' ear and begins to sing quietly.
"You're just too good to be true. Can't take my eyes off of you. You'd be like heaven to touch. I wanna hold you so much. At long last love has arrived. And I thank God I'm alive. You're just too good to be true. Can't take my eyes off of you.
"Pardon the way that I stare. There's nothing else to compare. The sight of you leaves me weak. There are no words left to speak. So if you feel like I feel, please let me know that it's real. You're just too good to be true. Can't take my eyes off of you."
Adam tilts Kris' head back so he can look in to his eyes as he sings the next lines.
"I love you baby and if it's quite all right, I need you baby to warm the lonely nights. I love you baby, trust in me when I say. Oh pretty baby, don't bring me down I pray. Oh pretty baby, now that I've found you stay. And let me love you baby, let me love you... I mean it, Kris," he murmurs. "I love you."
Kris smiles gently. "I love you too, Adam."
The older man shakes his head. "No, Kris. I mean, I love you. It was never just a harmless crush. Why do you think Drake and I split up?"
"I know it wasn't a harmless crush," Kris replies.
"You... You do?" Adam asks.
Kris nods. "And I love you too. Why do you think Katy and I divorced?"
"I thought it was because she didn't like how much you had to travel," Adam says confused.
Kris shrugs. "That's just what we told people. But really, it was you. It was always you, Adam."
Adam brushes his fingers through Kris' hair. "Then why did you want to drink yourself in to oblivion tonight?" he asks.
"Because," Kris sighs. "I thought I was going to be all alone on Valentine's Day."
"But then why were you grumpy when I showed up?"
Kris shrugs, averting his eyes. "You showed up and you kept saying how this was the perfect single guys Valentine's Day. I never knew how to make the first move, I've always been waiting for you. I guess it just kind of annoyed me that you showed up on Valentine's Day as just my friend." He shrugs again.
Adam tilts Kris' face back towards his so they're eye to eye, brown to blue. "I've never been just your friend," he murmurs.
"No?" The smaller man asks.
Adam shakes his head. "It's always been you. But you were always one hundred percent straight." A small smirk turns up the corner of his mouth and makes Kris grin.
"Well that's obviously false," he says. "I don't think I've ever been a hundred percent straight. Especially after meeting you, because really, it was love at first sight." Kris blushes a little, not believing he actually admitted that out loud.
Adam strokes Kris' cheek lightly. "Come 'ere," he murmurs, guiding his best friend's lips to his, kissing him gently with all the love in the world.
Kris turns, sliding his body on top of the older man's, letting his fingers curl in his raven hair. After a moment, he brings the kiss to a peck. "I love you," he murmurs.
"I love you too," Adam replies, trailing his fingertip along Kris' jaw. Kris leans in to the touch and then stands, pulling Adam to his feet as well. Kris grips his best friends hands and walks backwards, leading him towards his bedroom. "Kris...?" Adam whispers. Kris just smiles and continues to pull Adam to their final destination.
Once in the bedroom Kris pulls Adam close, kissing him softly. Then begins to unbutton his own shirt slowly. Adam watches for a moment, then begins to help undress his best friend. When they're both naked, Kris reaches for Adam's hands again and walks them over to the queen-sized bed. "Are you sure?" Adam whispers. Kris nods, reaching up to twine his arms around Adam's neck.
"I've wanted this since the moment I met you," he says. Then he leans up on his toes to brush his lips against Adam's. He sits back on the bed, moving up towards the headboard with Adam following close behind. The older man lays his body over Kris, covering him completely, and leans down to kiss him. Kris moans quietly, arms wrapping around Adam, pulling him down against his chest.
The couple kisses and caresses, exploring each other's bodies for the first time, learning what makes the other squirm and moan. Before too long their bodies have a fine sheen of sweat coating them as they writhe and rub, kisses becoming frantic.
Adam pulls back to look down at his lover. "Are you sure?" he asks.
"Please, Adam," Kris whispers. "I need you. Please, don't make me wait."
"I don't want to hurt you," Adam says, carding his hand through the younger man's hair.
"I'm not worried," Kris replies. "I trust you. I know you'll take care of me." That's all Adam needs to get his confidence back.
"We need lube and condoms," he says.
"Night-stand," Kris tells him. Adam reaches in to the night-stand and digs around a moment before moving back to his lover with the supplies they're going to need.
After a few long moments of preparation, Adam finally sinks his length in to the younger man. Kris sighs quietly at the feeling. He always thought it was going to be quite painful, but Adam is so gentle that all Kris can feel is a slight stretching feeling and pleasure. It only confirms to him that they have always been meant for each other.
The two move together as one, hips rolling, hands gripping. Their voices blend together in a beautiful harmony as they let their pleasure be known vocally. When Kris looks up in to Adam's eyes, it's evident that this is not fucking or even sex, this is making love. Something he's not sure he ever did with Katy.
With their climaxes quickly approaching, they grip each other tightly, kissing sloppily with tongue and teeth. They cry out together as their orgasms overtake them, stars shooting behind their eyelids.
Adam collapses on top of the smaller man, still nestled deep inside of him. He lifts himself up on his elbow and looks down at Kris. "I love you," he murmurs, brushing his fingers through the younger man's hair.
"I love you too," Kris whispers softly. Then he leans up to kiss his new lover lightly on the lips.
Adam gently rolls off his partner and disappears in to the bathroom to dispose of the condom. He enters the bedroom again with a damp face cloth and proceeds to clean Kris up. He tosses the soiled cloth in to the hamper and climbs under the blankets with his new love.
Adam pulls Kris close, spooning him from behind. He bends over him to kiss him on the cheek. Kris turns his head and presses their lips together in a sweet, loving kiss. "I love you, Adam."
"I love you too," Adam replies softly. "I always have and I always will."
"Promise?" Kris asks. "Promise you won't ever leave?"
Adam trails his fingers down the side of the younger man's face and smirks. "You're stuck with me for life, Arkansas."
Kris grins. "And hopefully all the ones after that." Adam leans down to brush his lips against Kris' again, then cuddles the southern boy close.
"Is this how you imagined your Valentine's Day being?" he asks.
Kris shakes his head. "Not at all. This is so much better."
"Better than getting drunk and wallowing in your misery?"
Kris chuckles lightly and says, "This couldn't have been more perfect. Thank you."
"It was my pleasure," Adam replies placing a kiss behind Kris' ear.
The pair lay there quietly, just enjoying the warmth of each other. Kris couldn't be happier that his best friend had shown up tonight. He hoped that the amazing raven-haired man would continue to show up for many more Valentine's Days to come.
Just before drifting to sleep, Kris murmurs, "Happy Valentine's Day, Adam."
Adam touches his lips to Kris' shoulder for a moment and replies, "Happy Valentine's Day, Krissy. Thanks for making it the best one yet."
