CHAPTER FORTY-TWO

TAYLOR’S POV

Zac, Jenna and I end up staying with Andy for a week after the wedding. The first few days was spent packing Aaron’s things up, trying to get him out of the apartment as fast as possible. We ended up getting him completely moved out in three and a half days. Zac and I were pretty proud of ourselves for going along so fast… and for the fact we didn’t kill the guy; he was a righteous dick the whole time. But luckily Andy kept Jenna from seeing or hearing any of it. The last half of the week we stayed just to keep Andy company for a while. It was good for Jenna to have some bonding time with her god-mother and vice versa. We actually had a lot of fun and went to the Stoneham Zoo one day. That had to be the highlight of our trip. Jenna was all smiles, giggles and squeals. She adored the animals and really loved the petting zoo, getting to cuddle with sheep and goats. We got some amazing pictures of her and of the animals. All in all it was a blast and we were completely exhausted by the time we got back to Andy’s.

This time when we left Andy’s to go back to New York, it was harder than normal. Ever since she got pregnant with Jenna, it’s been hard for me to leave her. At first it was because I didn’t want her to go through anything new with the pregnancy without me being there. I was so scared that the baby would kick for the first time and I’d have to hear about it over the phone. Then it was hard because the two were just so cute together and I knew that the time spent with Jenna meant a lot to Andy. But now that Jenna’s older it’s hard because she doesn’t want to leave her god-mother. This time though was the hardest. Maybe it’s because of what we’d all been through in the past week. But whatever the reason, it was hard and I even shed a tear or two. But that was nothing compared to the wailing screams we got from Jenna, which just about broke my heart.

We’ve been back home for a few weeks now and everything is going smoothly. Zac and I are having our first date night tonight. We’re not going anywhere, we’re staying home. But Isaac and his new girlfriend Nikki are taking Jenna for the night. It’ll be nice not to have to worry about having a baby tonight. We can concentrate on each other and our love for each other. We can concentrate on our spark. The thought makes me giddy as I finish washing up and jump out of the shower. I dress in my most comfy pajama bottoms and my oldest, softest t-shirt as per Zac’s orders.

As I exit our bedroom and begin down the hall, something delicious smelling wafts through the air. “Ooh, what’s that smell?” I ask as I enter the kitchen. Zac’s bent over pulling something out of the oven. I move over to the bar and sit on one of the stools as Zac turns around, hiding whatever it is that he’s taken from the oven. I lean first to one side and then the other, but he keeps it well hidden. “Zac,” I whine. He grins at me and steps aside. My eyes widen when I see the steaming casserole dish. “Homemade macaroni and cheese!” I exclaim clapping my hands together giddily. Zac moves to stand across the counter from me.

“Happy?” he asks. I grin, leaning over the counter to grab the back of his neck, pulling him in for a hard, excited kiss.

“Happy doesn’t even begin to describe it!”

Zac chuckles lightly. “Glad I could be of service.”

“Can we eat?” I ask excitedly.

Zac grins. “Not yet. We’ve gotta wait for the veggies,” he answers.

I pout. “Oh alright. If you say so.”

“I do. Now I say you must kiss me again,” Zac says, coming around the bar to stand between my knees. I grin, wrapping my arms around his neck and pulling him in close for a soft kiss.

“This is the best date night ever,” I tell him quietly.

My husband smiles, squeezing my hips. “I’m glad you think so,” he murmurs. “I wanted to make tonight special for us… for you. You deserve it after the crap I put you through at the wedding.”

I give the drummer a stern look. “Stop apologizing, Zac. We needed that all to happen in order to get our spark back. You’re happy with our relationship again, right?” Zac nods. “Well, I am too and that’s what’s important. Okay?”

Zac nods again. “Okay.”

When the vegetables are done steaming, I set the table and Zac serves up the food. He’s done an amazing job with the mac and cheese and the veggies. Everything is so good that I go back for seconds and thirds. The conversation throughout the meal is nice. We talk about everything and nothing. It’s just like old times when we first started dating and didn’t have a care in the world. It’s a great feeling that makes me happy we’ve decided to do our date nights.

After we put the dishes in the dish washer, Zac pulls me in to the living room, sitting me on the couch while he puts a DVD in the player. Then he makes his way over to the couch and cuddles in to me. “Remember when I was about four and Mom and Dad went on their second honeymoon?” he asks.

I nod. “Aunt Jane stayed with us that weekend.”

“It was the first time they went away since I’d been born and I was upset. Remember?” Zac says. I nod again. “You said we could watch a movie and that I could pick whatever I wanted.”

I grin. “You picked Mary Poppins. You were obsessed with that movie at the time.”

Zac smiles at me, tucking my hair behind my ear. “Yeah, and you let me cuddle with you on the couch while we watched it. When it was over and we went to bed, you let me sleep in your bed with you and we cuddled all night.”

“That’s ‘cause you hogged the blankets!” I tease.

Zac smiles softly. “Yeah, but when I think back on my life, I remember that as being one of the first times I knew I loved you.”

I smile, tears pricking in my eyes. “Really?” I ask.

Zac nods. “At the time I didn’t know what the feeling was, but when I think about it now I know exactly what it was… what it still is. I’m lucky to have you.” A tear slips down my cheek at those words and Zac gently catches it on his lips. “That’s why I thought we could recreate the feelings from that night.” He hits play on the remote and the opening credits of Mary Poppins appear on the screen.

“Oh, Zac,” I sigh. “This is… this is perfect. Really perfect.” My husband leans closer and kisses me softly.

“I love you, Taylor.”

“I love you too, Zac. So much.”

This was all kinds of wonderful. The boys helping Andy out, the zoo, the date night.

Mary Poppins is definitely a great movie. Can't wait to see what happens next!
