CHAPTER SEVEN

TAYLOR’S POV

I hide out in my study for a while after the little fight with Natalie. If she’s not going to help me, than I’ve got to take this in to my own hands. So I pick up the phone and dial Olivia. She answers after two rings.

“Hey, Tay, what’s up?” she asks.

“I’m going to kill my wife,” I say angrily.

“Whoa. What brought on this?” Olivia asks in surprise.

“She set Zac up on a blind date tonight with her best friend from Georgia,” I answer grinding my teeth together in frustration.

“What?!” the younger woman shrieks. I wince at the pain it brings my ear.

Then I sigh. “You heard me,” I mumble.

“But… But… But…” She’s so upset she can’t even form a sentence.

“It’s going to be alright,” I tell her. “We’ll do something about it. We’ll get you and Zac back together. I promise. I don’t know how we’re going to do it, but we will, okay?”

“Mm-hmm,” she whimpers. She sounds completely hurt.

I sigh, my eyes filling with tears. “It’s gonna be okay, Liv, trust me,” I murmur.

“You… You don’t… don’t know that,” she cries.

“Yes, I do,” I reply stubbornly. “You and Zac belong together. And I’m not going to let Natalie ruin it for the both of you. I’m not going to let her stupid best friend come in between you and Zac. I don’t care what I have to do.”

“You… you really believe that?” she asks with a sniffle.

“Of course I do, Sweetie,” I answer softly. “You’re going to be my sister-in-law some day, I just know it.”

“You sure?” Olivia says sadly.

“Yes, I’m sure, Liv,” I tell her. “You mean the world to Zac and that’s why this is taking such a toll on him. I know it’s been horrible for you too but Zac…” I sigh. “He’s had some rough break-ups in the past and before you he swore he’d never love again. That’s another reason this is so hard for him, ya know?”

“Yeah,” she sniffs. “Do you… Do you think he liked her? This chick from Georgia?”

I sigh because, really, I don’t want to lie to her, but I know the truth is going to hurt. “They seemed to hit it off,” I answer.

“No, Tay, no,” she says.

“Liv, don’t worry, I’m going to make it all better. You’ll see.”

Olivia sighs. “I’m holding you to that,” she tells me.

“I don’t break promises,” I reply.

There’s a beat of silence, then Olivia sighs. “If there’s nothing else, I think I just want to go lie down.”

I nod. “Yeah, sure. That’s fine. But promise to take care of yourself. We don’t need you going in to another bad depression when you’re just starting to come out of this one.”

“I know,” she whispers. “Bye, Tay.”

“Bye, Liv. I love you, sis.”

“I love you too, bro.” Then we hang up.

It’s been a few weeks since Zac and Kate met and he’s driving me crazy. We’ve been in the studio for sixteen hours a day all these weeks and all he can talk about is Kate. It makes me so mad. They sound like they’re getting along really well and it’s almost like he’s smitten with her. I hate it. So when we’re taking a break for lunch and he starts rambling on about how amazing Kate is, I can’t take it anymore. “Enough!” I exclaim. Both my brothers look at me with raised eyebrows. “I am so sick and tired of hearing about Kate! All you fucking talk about lately is her and sucks so bad! You belong with Olivia! You two are soul mates!”

Zac glares at me. “Shut up, Tay,” he growls. “And don’t talk about that back-stabbing bitch to me.”

“She’s not a bitch!” I yell, jumping to my feet.

Zac mirrors my actions, clenching his hands in to fists at his sides. “What else would you call someone that you’re engaged to when she fucking cheats on you?!”

“Well, fuck, Zac! You were pushing her for the wedding and she wasn’t ready and she needed some comfort! She didn’t do it on fucking purpose!” I yell, moving closer to him.

“I don’t fucking care!” Zac exclaims loudly, getting in my face so we’re nose to nose. “She’s scum and I don’t care if she fucking dies!” That’s all it takes for me to pull my arm back and let it fly forward, my fist connecting hard with his jaw. “You little bitch,” he says, then throws a punch of his own, right at my lip. I feel it cut on my upper teeth, a metallic taste entering my mouth. I try to hit him again, but he grabs me and then we’re on the floor, hitting, pinching, pulling hair. Which makes me think, What are we? Girls? But it doesn’t stop me from gripping a fistful of his hair and tugging as hard as I can.

Zac screeches in pain and lands a good blow to my stomach. “Guys! Stop it!” Isaac commands. “Fucking stop! It!” Then he’s wrenching us apart and we’re both panting hard. I can feel my left eye swelling and there are some scratches on Zac’s cheek. “What the fuck, you guys?” Isaac says. “You need to play nice already!”

I shake Isaac’s hand off of me and say, “Yeah, well, I’m not working with him till he gets his head on straight and realizes that he needs Olivia.” Then I turn on my heel, grab my messenger bag and storm out of the studio to my car. I get in, rev the engine and head in the direction of Olivia’s house.

When I get to the door of the gray house I knock loudly. Aaron answers. “What the hell happened to you?” he asks, opening the door all of the way and stepping back to let me in.

“Got in a fight with Zac,” I mumble. “Is Liv here?”

Aaron lets out a low whistle. “Yeah, she’s in her room, but wait a minute. I’ll get you some ice for that eye.” I nod feeling appreciative of his hospitality. Once I’ve got the ice pack in my hand, I make my way up the stairs to Olivia’s room.

The door is closed when I get there and I can hear the notes of an acoustic guitar floating to me from under the door. I knock gently with my bruised knuckles. “It’s open!” Olivia calls. I twist the knob and slip inside the bedroom. Olivia is scribbling in her notebook as I walk over to her and sit down on the bed.

When she looks up she gasps. “Tay! What the hell happened?!” she asks, setting her guitar aside and crawling closer to me. She touches my cheek lightly which still makes me flinch in pain. “Tay?” she murmurs questioningly.

I sigh and press the ice pack to my face. “I got in a fight with Zac,” I tell her.

“Are you serious?” she asks. “You do realize he hits things for a living.”

I snort. “Yeah, I kind of knew that.”

“What would make you get in such a fight with him?” she asks.

I sigh and turn a little to lay back against the pillows, Olivia laying down beside me, her head propped in her hand. Then I tell her everything, from how it started to how I ended up in her room with an ice pack in my hand. “Oh, Tay,” she murmurs once I’m finished, stroking my hair soothingly. But then she smacks me in the shoulder.

“Hey! What was that for?!” I exclaim, rubbing at my bruised shoulder.

“That was for being an idiot,” she says calmly. I give her a funny look. “Seriously, Taylor, you got in a fist fight with a guy whose muscles are three times bigger than yours and hits things for a living. Plus, you can’t just give up on this project until Zac gets on board. That could take forever, you know how stubborn he is. And really, you can’t disappoint the fans.”

I sigh because she’s right about Zac being stubborn and about the fans. “I guess you’re right, but that doesn’t mean I won’t be coming back here with more scrapes and bruises.”

Olivia goes back to petting my hair. “So thanks for defending my honor, though,” she says.

I smile at her. “No one can talk like that about you and get away with it. Especially not in front of me,” I tell her. “And especially not Zac.”

“He’s just hurt, Tay,” she replies. “And I get that. If I were him I’d probably call myself some pretty bad names too.”

“But you don’t deserve it,” I assure her. “You said you were sorry and you showed your remorse. You told him you’d do anything to make it up to him.”

“I know,” the green eyed girl murmurs. “But that still doesn’t make what I did right.”

“No, it doesn’t and it doesn’t make what he said about you right either,” I say. She quirks her mouth a little, chewing on the corner of it. “Hey, what’s wrong?” I ask gently, letting my fingers run through her sandy colored hair.

“I just… I really miss him,” she whispers, her eyes tearing up.

I pull her down on to my chest, holding her close and kissing her head. “I know you do,” I reply quietly. “And I’m going to fix that if it’s the last thing I do.”
