Summary: Luxe and Adam have been best friends since Hollywood Week, but now that tour rehearsals have begun, Adam is finding out things he'd never know about his friend. Things that no one should have to go through. Can Adam be her Knight in Shining Armor? Or will he be the support Luxe needs to overcome her fears and help herself?

ADAM’S POV

September 2009
Last Day of the Tour
Manchester, New Hampshire

The last day of the tour is giving me mixed emotions. Everyone is so excited for what we’ve accomplished over the summer, but we’re also sad that it’s ending. It’s a double-edged sword of sorts. I decide tonight is the perfect night for Luxe and I to sing a duet of Whataya Want From Me. I’m pretty sure the crowd would go crazy if we sang it together. Ever since Luxe dedicated it to me, the fans have asked if we’d ever make a duet of it. They keep telling us how cute we are together, making me believe it was a good choice for us to come out about our relationship. The fans seem to be taking it quite well.

I look over at Luxe who is unpacking her bag, placing all her clothes in her dresser drawers. How perfect is it that her last night on tour is in her home town? I smile at the thought. But I also smile at the surprise her friends are helping me set up for after the show.

“What are you smiling about?” Luxe asks, startling me from my thoughts.

“Oh, I just… I’m happy we get to stay here,” I tell her. “I like that I get to see where you live and see your home town, meet your friends. It’s been fun.”

She smiles at me. “It’s kind of amazing, right? The fact that our last show is here of all places.”

I grin. “I think it’s perfect. I also thought it’d be perfect for us to make Whataya Want From Me in to a duet tonight.” I hold my breath waiting for her reaction.

“Really? You want us to sing it together?” she asks.

I nod. “Yeah, I think it’d be really special. It’s our song, ya know?”

She nods and moves over to the bed to sit with me, straddling my lap and wrapping her arms around my neck. “It is our song,” she agrees. “And the fans have been asking if we’d sing it together.”

“Is that a yes?” I ask.

She shrugs. “Sure, why not?”

I laugh. “That’s all you can say?”

Luxe grins. “Yes because right now I want my lips to be doing other things.” I grin as she leans in and presses her lips to mine. “Love you,” she whispers.

“Love you too,” I reply.

Luxe and I decide that we’ll sing Whataya Want From Me as the last song of my set. We also decide that I’ll sing the first verse and she’ll come in on the chorus. Then she’ll sing the second verse and I’ll come in on the second chorus. Well, apparently the decisions we made for how to sing the song were the right ones because the fans go crazy at the end. But that could also be because of the kiss we share at the end. Nothing crazy or sexual, just sweet and romantic lip to lip.

After the show I tell Luxe we’re not going to the tour wrap-up party because I have a surprise waiting for her back at her townhouse. She looks at me funny but agrees. We pack up our gear, tell everyone we’ll see them tomorrow and head back to Luxe’s place.

When we get back to the house we drop our bags in the front hall, then I take my beautiful girlfriend by the hand and lead her up to her bedroom where her best girlfriend has set everything up for me. There are rose petals covering the bed and candles lit all around the room. On the nightstand there’s a bottle of champagne stuck in a bucket of ice. Luxe turns to me with raised eyebrows upon seeing her bedroom.

I take her by the hand and lead her to the middle of the room where there’s a circle of rose petals on the floor. I stand us in the center of the circle and get down on one knee, holding on to Luxe’s hands tightly, stroking the back of them with my thumbs. “Luxe,” I begin. “I’ve known since Hollywood Week that there was something special about you, I just didn’t know how special. But now that I do, I don’t ever want to let you go. You are my heart and soul, you are my entire world.”

I stop to take a deep breath. I hadn’t realized how nervous I was till just now. “This tour would have meant nothing without you. All this fame that we’ve been gaining means nothing without you. We’ve been through a lot more ups and downs in the past three months than more people go through in a lifetime. And we’ve done it together. We’ve kept each other strong. You are my rock as I am yours.”

I pause for another deep breath, the most important part of my little speech coming up. “I love you more than anything in the world and it would be a great honor if I could spend the rest of my life with you. Luxe Tobin, will you marry me?”

Luxe is grinning from ear to ear, tears raining down her face. “Do you really even have to ask? I love you so much, Adam,” she says. “Of course I’ll marry you!” She giggles as I jump up, wrap my arms around her and lifting her off her feet, planting a kiss on her gorgeous little mouth. Then I set her down slowly, grinning in to her eyes.

“Go to the bed,” I command gently. “Your ring’s waiting for you.” Luxe’s green eyes sparkle with excitement as she turns towards her bed. She moves slowly over to it and picks up the velvet ring box. She lifts the lid slowly and those gorgeous green eyes of hers go wide but she doesn’t say anything. “Do you like it?” I ask nervously.

Luxe turns to face me and stutters a bit. “I… It’s just… Oh my god!”

I chuckle. “Is that a yes?” I ask.

Luxe nods. “I just… I’m speechless,” she says. “I just… this ring is so perfect. It’s everything I never knew I wanted in an engagement ring. It’s just… Oh my god. I love it so much, Adam! Thank you!” She throws her arms around my neck, hugging me tightly.

“You’re welcome,” I tell her quietly. “You deserve all the finest things in the world.” Then I take the diamond engagement ring, white gold with a round center diamond and tear drop shaped ones on either side with intricately carved designs on the sides of the band, and slip it gently on to Luxe’s ring finger. “Perfect,” I murmur when the ring fits perfectly on my fiancée’s finger.

“I love you,” Luxe whispers, leaning up on her toes to kiss me.

“I love you too,” I reply quietly. Then I pull away, moving over to the nightstand to pour two glasses of champagne. I hand one to my beautiful fiancée and hold the other in the air. “A toast,” I say. “To the melding of two lives in to one. To our life together. Cheers.”

“Cheers,” Luxe murmurs. We clink glasses and I take a swallow of my champagne. But then I notice that Luxe doesn’t drink any of hers. She just stares at the glass and then sets it down on the bedside table.

“Why aren’t you drinking your champagne?” I ask.

“Adam, baby, we need to talk,” she says.

Uh-oh.

Those are not the kind of words you want to hear after just proposing. I thought everything was going well. I mean, she said yes. What could be so bad that she would utter those relationship kiss of death words? “Um, okay,” I reply. “What about?”

“I uh, I don’t really know how to tell you this,” she begins, “so I’m just going to come right out and say it: I’m pregnant. About five weeks along.” I can see she’s holding her breath waiting for me to respond, but I’m not sure how to.

“Are… are you sure?” I ask.

Luxe nods. “I’m five days late and I took a pregnancy test and it came back positive.” She shrugs. “Now to be one hundred percent positive all I need is to get a blood test done.” She shrugs again. A grin splits my face and I let out a loud whoop! I throw my arms around Luxe and hug her tightly.

“Oh my god, I can’t believe this! This is amazing!” I tell her excitedly. “We’re having a baby!” She giggles at me and I kneel down, lifting the hem of her shirt and kiss her belly. Keeping my lips pressed to her skin I murmur, “Hey, little baby, this is your daddy. I can’t wait to meet you. I love you already and I’ve only known about you for five seconds. You’re so precious to me already and your mama is going to be the best mommy ever. Just you wait and see.”

I look up at Luxe to see tears rolling down her cheeks. I stand and take her face in my hands. “Are you okay?” I ask, rubbing the tears away gently with the pads of my thumbs.

She nods. “You’re just… How can you be real? You’re too perfect,” she tells me.

I smile. “You’re perfect too, you know,” I say. She starts to protest but I interrupt her. “You’re perfect to me and that’s all that matters.”

She nods. “If you say so.”

“I do say so,” I tell her.

Luxe looks at me a bit nervously. “What?” I ask. “What is it?”

She takes a deep breath. “Do you think we’re ready for this with everything that’s happening for us? Our careers, I mean.”

I smile at her. “Even if we’re not, we’ll figure it out… together. I promise you that.”

“You always keep your promises,” she says quietly.
