CHAPTER FIFTEEN
Taylor and I take a seat at his piano. We smile at each other before he speaks into his microphone.
"This is what I like to call the impromptu part of the show. And tonight's special guest star is, Super Nanny." He says the last part with this gentle, almost proud, tone to his voice like it gives him great joy to be showing me off.
I lean over to the acoustic guitar resting beside the piano and pick it up. I strum it a few times, making sure it's still in tune. Then I take a deep breath, my nerves finally catching up to me, and begin to sing.
"I looked away, then I looked back at you. You tried to say, things that you can't undo. If I had my way, I'd never get over you. Today's the day, I pray that we make it through. Make it through the fall. Make it through it all.
"And I don't want to fall to pieces, I just want to sit and stare at you. And I don't want to talk about it. And I don't want a conversation, I just want to cry in front of you. And I don't want to talk about it, 'cause I'm in love with you."
At this point in the song, I feel Taylor shift beside me. Then his hand comes to rest on the small of my back. I smile to myself, inching a bit closer to him, and let the song and the feel of his hand take me over.
"You're the only one, I'd be with 'til the end. When I come undone, you bring me back again. Back under the stars. Back into your arms.
"And I don't want to fall to pieces, I just want to sit and stare at you. And I don't want to talk about it. And I don't want a conversation, I just want to cry in front of you. And I don't want to talk about it, 'cause I'm in love with you.
"Want to know who you are. Want to know where to start. I want to know what this means. Want to know how ya feel. Want to know what is real. I want to know everything, everything!
"I don't want to fall to pieces, I just want to sit and stare at you. And I don't want to talk about it. And I don't want a conversation, I just want to cry in front of you. And I don't want to talk about it. And I don't want to fall to pieces, I just want to sit and stare at you. And I don't want to talk about it. And I don't want a conversation, I just want to cry in front of you. And I don't want to talk about it, 'cause I'm in love with you.
"I'm in love with you. 'Cause I'm in love with you. I'm in love with you. I'm in love with you."

After Hanson plays a final song and then an encore, we get back into the cake. I think more of it gets on Taylor and myself than in any of our stomachs. Penny and Ezra get pretty messy too. We end up cleaning the mess we've made and then head to the hotel. Once there, Taylor and I proceed to clean up the kids and put them in their pajamas.
As I secure River's diaper in place, I say to Taylor,
"You know, we really need to find a 24-hour laundromat and get these clothes cleaned or else they'll be ruined." Taylor nods, pulling Penny's pajama pants up. He gives her a pat on the bum and the toddler runs off to play with her brother.
"Sounds good," he says. "But I think we need to get washed up first." He proves his point by picking a piece of cake out of my hair. I make a face.
"That's so gross."
We have all three kids, a diaper bag and a bag of toys loaded in our arms as we stand outside of Zac and Isaac's hotel room. Taylor knocks loudly on the door, which is opened a moment later by the eldest Hanson brother.
"Oh hell. What do you want?" he asks. I smile sweetly.
"Ike, could you do us a huuuge favor?" I ask in the most endearing voice I can muster.
Isaac sighs, rolling his eyes.
"What is it?"
"We were wondering if you and Zac could watch the kids tonight," I say. Isaac starts to speak, but Taylor interrupts.
"Please, Ike? We still have to shower and pick the cake from our hair. And we have to find a place open this late to wash our clothes. Besides..." Taylor gives his brother one of those smiles that will make you agree to do anything he asks of you. "It's my birthday. I deserve the night off to be with my girlfriend." At the mention of the word "girlfriend" I blush. Taylor's never called me that before.
Isaac grins at me, making my cheeks burn hotter.
"Okay, fine," he says. "We'll watch them." I kiss the guitarist on the cheek, handing him the baby.
"Thank you, Ike."
"No problem." We unload the kids, kissing them goodnight, and go back to our room.
Taylor opens the door, letting me enter the room ahead of him.
"So are we going to flip a coin or something to see who gets the bathroom first?" I ask. Taylor wraps his arms around me from behind, kissing my jaw lightly.
"Who says anyone has to go first?" he whispers in a husky voice.
"Uh-uh. No way," I reply, pulling away from the blond. I turn around to look at him. He's frowning, his eyebrows knit together.
"You don't trust me," he states.
"What?" I ask surprised.
Taylor folds his arms over his chest, looking down at the floor.
"You don't trust me," he repeats quietly.
"Taylor, I... Why would you say that?" I ask him. "Of course I trust you."
"No, you don't." He looks up at me then. "You only trust me to a point," he says. "But whenever... whenever we even get close to some form of physical intimacy other than kissing, you shut it down. You won't even get dressed in front of me. You lock yourself in the bathroom!" His frustration is apparent in his voice.
I just stand there not knowing what to do. I'm angry and I'm hurt. I don't understand why he's doing this.
"So you're mad because I won't spread my legs for you?" I say, an unusual bite to my words.
"No, I'm just, I..." Taylor stumbles over his sentence. "Why don't you trust me?" His face is sad and hurt. I can't help looking away.
I'm silent, lost in thought, and the next thing I know, Taylor has moved over to me. He touches my shoulder lightly, whispering my name. I look up into his pale blue eyes, a pang of guilt hitting me. I don't want to lie to him, but it's easier than the truth.
I sigh deeply.
"It's not that I don't trust you, Tay," I tell him. "I just..." I look down at the gray carpeting, shrugging. "I just want to wait until I'm married. That's all." I shrug again. At least it wasn't a complete lie. But it definitely wasn't the truth.
After a moment of silence, I lift my gaze to the older blonde's.
"I'm gonna go take my shower now," I say. He nods.
"Yeah. Okay." Then he kisses my cheek. "I'm sorry," he whispers. All I can do is squeeze his hand and walk away.
