CHAPTER NINE

Taylor's POV

We're all standing around chatting after the set; Andy, Zac, JD, Paul and myself. Alec walks up to the group shyly and says something to Andy. Then the two go outside to talk, I presume. Zac nudges me and I follow him to a booth in a dark, quiet corner.

We sit side-by-side on the vinyl seats. Zac leans his head against my shoulder, making me smile and wrap my arms around him.

I feel Zac take a deep breath. Then he speaks.

"Can, Can I tell you something?" I lean my head against my younger brother's and nod. "Remember that fight last week and I told you I was stressing about things other than the CD?" I nod again. "Well, Andy said something to me earlier. She said that I should have faith in the relationship I have with you. But I'm kind of scared."

"Of what?" I ask.

"Of how you'll react," Zac answers.

"React to what?"

Zac sighs and moves closer to me, nestling himself against my side. He holds on to me a little tighter.

"I'm in love," he tells me. "But I'm scared of how you'll react when I tell you who it is. I'm scared you won't approve. And..." He takes a deep breath. "I'm in love with a guy."

"You're gay?" I gasp. My younger brother nods. "Who is it?" I ask. Zac shakes his head.

"I'm not ready to tell you that yet. I'm trying to work up the nerve." I nod, keeping silent.

After a moment, I speak up.

"Why wouldn't I approve?"

"I'm sure you'll approve of him as a person," Zac answers. "But I don't think you'll approve of us being together." I frown.

"But why?"

"If I told you why, I'd have to tell you who he is. And that's not going to happen right now." I smile.

"Okay. I won't push the subject." I pause. "But, does he treat you well?" I chew my lip, concerned. Really, I wish he wasn't telling me about this mystery guy. But I want to make sure this guy actually cares for my brother.

"He's a good friend," Zac says slowly. "But he's got no idea how I feel." He's silent, like he's thinking about what to say next. "It's just...He's my everything. I don't know what I'd do without him." My heart clenches a bit. He should be saying those things about me.

"That sounds nice," I whisper. "I'm happy for you."
