CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN
Zac's POV
I haven't eaten anything in a week, maybe two. I'm not sure, I've lost track. But I haven't lost track of how many days it's been since Taylor's set foot in this apartment: sixteen. After that day at the studio, Taylor came back to our place to gather some clothes. Then he left without a word. I guess he went to Isaac, but Isaac didn't want to get in the middle of it. So Taylor's been staying at a hotel.
I can't remember if I've been back to the studio. I'm pretty sure it's the lack of nutrition in my system. And Isaac won't quit calling me. I'd turn off my phone if I hadn't promised him I'd leave it on so he can check in. Taylor hasn't called once. But even if he doesn't want to be my boyfriend, I'm sure his brotherly instincts have taken over and he's talked with Isaac. But Ike hasn't mentioned anything.
I sigh and roll over. I flip open my cell phone to check the date. September 28th, 2003. My eighteenth birthday is in less than a month. I'm sure my mom will want to make a big deal of it. But at this point, I don't feel much like getting out of bed.
My cell phone starts ringing. I pick it up and check the caller ID. It's Isaac, making his daily check to make sure I'm still alive. I sigh and flip open my phone, putting it to my ear.
"Hey, Buddy, how you feelin?" Isaac's concerned voice greets me.
"Been a helluva lot better," I give my usual answer.
"Have you eaten anything?"
"Sure?"
I hear my brother sigh.
"You need to eat something, Zac. When's the last time you've eaten?" I shrug.
"I dunno."
"That's it, I'm coming over," Isaac announces.
"No, Ike. Please don't," I protest weakly.
"Not another word, Zac. Unless you want me to call Mom and tell her you're not eating and you're sleeping at least twelve hours a day."
"No!" I exclaim. "Don't. If you tell her that, I'll have to tell her about me and Taylor. Or at least about what we used to be."
"M'sorry, Zac. I really am." Isaac sounds sincere.
"I know," I whisper.
"I'll see you in a few."
"Okay."
Isaac shows up in less than ten minutes. When he walks into my room, he tells me I smell like ass and I better take a shower. I guess it has been a while. Upon entering the kitchen after I've scrubbed myself clean, I find that Isaac's made me chicken noodle soup. He said it was the only thing he could think of that wouldn't be so hard on my stomach. Once I begin eating, I finally realize how hungry I actually am. As I eat, Isaac makes small talk. He stays for a few hours and when he leaves, I go back to bed.
Isaac shows up at my apartment every day for a week and a half, getting me to shower and eat. After a few days of his visits, I started feeling better. I started looking forward to his visits. I even started writing. And although I was getting back to normal, my heart still ached. I still hadn't seen or heard from Taylor. But Isaac assured me he was getting along fine. We didn't talk about him much.
Exactly two weeks after Isaac's first visit, I sat him down and played him the song I'd been working on. When I finish playing, I look at my brother expectantly.
"So?" I ask and start chewing on my lower lip. I'm actually quite nervous about his opinion.
"It's amazing, Zac," Isaac says after a moment.
"You really think so?" I ask. Isaac nods.
"I think we should put it on the album," he replies.
"Is there even going to be an album?" I ask, setting aside my guitar. Isaac sighs.
"I'm hoping so." I nod.
"Me too."
Comments?
Yeah, I know it's just a filler. So I'm going to post the next chapter right away! Yay!
Leave me some love!
