COLLIDE: chapter four
MEL'S POV
The boys and I have been getting along great with the Hanson brothers. Actually, we've been getting along with everyone working on the tour. But Zac and I have been getting along the best. We've really grown close over the past month. We talk about everything; anything and everything. Well, almost anything.

There's a knock on my hotel room door as I'm checking my email.
"Yeah?" I call, not wanting to get up.
"It's me. Open up," Zac replies. I grin, jumping up to answer the door.
I twist the knob and open the door. Zac smiles at me sweetly.
"Whatcha doin?" he asks. I grin and step out of the way so the drummer can enter the room.
"Oh you know: sex, drugs and rock'n'roll," I joke.
"And you didn't invite me?" Zac replies flopping on my bed. I climb up next to him and close my laptop.
"This was a private affair. Next time, I promise."
Zac is silent for a bit, folding his arms behind his head and staring up at the ceiling. I furrow my brow.
"Was there something you wanted to talk about?" My friend shrugs his shoulder nonchalantly.
"What's the deal with you an' Aaron?" he asks.
"What?" I look at him, caught off-guard by his question.
Zac turns his head towards me. "Is there something between you two?" I grin and shake my head.
"No. God, no." The drummer raises an eyebrow at me. "I had a crush on Aaron for a long time. But once we got to be friends..." I shrug. "That's all we are: friends."
"What? Was it that whole 'better off friends than lovers' thing?" Zac smirks. I roll my eyes and stretch out on my stomach, head propped in my hand.
"It wasn't like that."
"Then what was it like?"
"We just... have different needs." Zac wiggles his eyebrows suggestively.
"Oh, I see."
I roll my eyes again. "I wasn't talking about sex, you horndog. Aaron and I... we just don't see eye to eye when it comes to relationships."
"What don't you see eye to eye on?"
"Well, he wants to be twenty-four and free and I...don't."
"And what does that mean?"
Once again I roll my eyes. "Gee, for someone not interested you sure want details."
"I never said I wasn't interested." I look down at the mattress feeling my cheeks burn.
"When I was little I always thought I'd be married with two kids by now. The whole white picket fence thing. I never thought I'd be so... alone."
Zac lays his hand on my shoulder and says, "You're not alone, Sweetie. There are at least seven guys on this tour that would kick anyone's ass for you." I feel my cheeks burn hotter.
"I know that, Zac. But I'm still alone." I look down at my clasped hands. "In my heart anyway."
I feel the bed shift and Zac's strong arms envelope me. I cuddle into him letting his warmth take over me.
"You won't always be alone," he murmurs.
"Promise?" I whisper.
"Pinky swear," he replies softly. I snuggle closer, deciding tonight should be the night I come clean to my tour buddy about everything.
