CHAPTER NINE

OLIVIA's POV

After the show I wait at Hanson's tour bus as they sign autographs and take pictures with the fans. I stand with my back against the cool metal of the bus, my legs crossed at the ankles and my head tilted back. It seems like I stand there for hours in the chill night air. Not soon enough for my standards, I hear voices and footsteps coming closer. I open my eyes, keeping my face turned towards the full moon, to see Zac and Taylor walking in my direction.

I lift my head from the bus when they get to me. Taylor winks and say, "I'll leave you two alone." Then he climbs up the stairs of his home on wheels.

"You played well tonight," I tell the drummer. He doesn't say anything, just stares at the ground. "So, what? You can't talk to me after what I did for you?"

Zac's head snaps up, his eyes blazing. "For me?! What you did for me?!"

"Yes, you!" I exclaim pushing off the bus. "I risked humiliation for you! I risked everything for you! I just..."

I sigh and run my fingers through my hair, already feeling out of gas. "I just... I wanted to prove myself to you. I just wanted you to see that the girl on stage is the same girl you fell in love with this past month."

"Four months," Zac states.

I make a face at him. "What?"

"Four months," he repeats. "I fell in love with you four months ago. The first time I met you... at the audition. I just didn't know it was you." He shrugs. I open and close my mouth a few times, not knowing what to say but wanting so desperately to say the perfect words. So I take a deep breath and listen to my heart.

"I miss you," I whisper. "It's only been a day since I ran out of your room, but I miss you. You...you are the world to me," I tell him, tears filling my eyes. I cross my arms over my chest and look down at my chucks.

After a moment I lift my gaze to Zac's, wiping the tears from my face.

"I love you, Zac," I tell him. "And I just... I wish I could make things right. But I don't know how to. Please, just tell me what to do. Please, Zac. Please." I choke back a sob, the tears flowing freely now.

Much to my surprise, Zac moves closer, gently taking my face in his hands. He strokes his thumbs back and forth, wiping the tears from my cheeks. Then he leans in, pressing his lips to mine.

I reach out for him, gripping his t-shirt tightly in my fists. The brown-eyed drummer drops his hands from my face, letting his arms wrap around my waist, pulling me to his chest.

"I love you," he murmurs against my mouth.

"I love you too," I tell him. "So much."

Zac rests his forehead against mine, cupping my jaw in his hand.

"I don't want to get hurt," he whispers.

"I don't want to hurt you," I reply softly.

"Then don't," he says. "Just don't. Be honest with me. No more secrets, okay?" I nod.

"No more secrets." Zac wraps his arms around me tightly, hugging me close.

"I'm sorry," he whispers.

"For what?" I ask.

"For what I said to you earlier. For what I called you," he answers quietly. I pull back to look at him.

"Don't," I tell him. "I don't deserve an apology."

"But I didn't mean it," he tells me. "I was mad. Furious actually. Just, please accept my apology." I nod.

"Okay, I accept."

Zac rests his forehead against mine and sighs. "I've missed you too," he says, acknowledging my earlier comment. I can't help smiling a little at hearing that. "Don't leave me," he whispers. "Just... don't leave." I wrap my arms around his neck, pulling him close.

"I'm not going anywhere... except, maybe, to bed." Zac laughs. "I'm tired. Today was stressful." He smiles at me, a hint of laughter in his warm eyes.

"You mind staying on the Hanson bus tonight?" he asks.

"I am anywhere you are," I answer. Zac cups my face in his hands.

"Good," he murmurs planting a sweet kiss on my lips.

"I love you," I whisper.

"I love you too," he whispers back.
