CHAPTER FOUR
Taylor’s POV
Zac and I were on our way to the airport. I was in the passenger’s seat while Zac drove. He gets nervous when I drive and I’ve got the speeding tickets to prove it.
JD called me last night asking if we could pick her and Andy up at the airport. Their boyfriends had called to say their van broke down on the way to Tulsa and couldn’t get it fixed till today. They wouldn’t make it in time to pick the girls up. They may even have to postpone their show till tomorrow night.
I sigh deeply. Zac and I have been driving for twenty minutes now and we haven’t said one word to each other.
“Bored?” Zac asks. I move my gaze from out the window to my brother. He’s so beautiful. You’re such a perv, the nasty voice in my head says.
“Taylor?” I give my head a little shake.
“What?” I ask. Zac glances at me, then back to the road.
“You okay?” he counters. I nod and look out the windshield.
“Yeah, fine,” I answer. We continue on in silence.
Zac and I are now standing at Gate seven. People are rushing off the plane, being greeted by friends and family. Then I see her, my little Miss JD. I feel a grin creep across my face as she waves. She and Andy rush over to us.
JD drops her backpack and throws her arms around me. I laugh, squeezing her tight.
“I’m so glad you’re here,” I whisper. JD pulls back to look at me.
“Damn, T-Bird. It’s been way too long between visits,” she tells me, pulling me into another hug.
“I’ve missed you,” I say quietly.
“I’ve missed you too, Sweetie,” she replies.
Andy’s POV
I exit the plane behind JD. I always make her go first. As the inside of the airport comes into view, I immediately spot friends. I nudge JD and she looks in the direction I’m pointing to. She throws her arm up and waves. Then we run over to the two brothers.
I throw my arms around Zac’s neck and he lifts me up, spinning in a circle. I giggle loudly.
“Zachary!” I squeal. Zac sets me on my feet, my arms still locked around his neck.
“What did I tell you about calling me that, Banana Face?” Zac says with a smirk.
“Hmm, that seems to have slipped my mind, Monkey Butt,” I reply, a smirk coming over my face.
“Bitch.”
“Slut.”
“Psycho.”
“Monster.”
Zac’s smirk turns into a soft smile then. He gently tucks my hair behind my ear, speaking quietly.
“I’ve missed you, Banana Face.” My smile matches his as I reply.
“I’ve missed you too, Monster.” Then Zac leans down to press his lips softly to mine.
Zac pulls back and smirks.
“You taste like green apple,” he states.
“Your point?” I tease. Zac leans down, nuzzling my cheek with his nose. He rests his forehead against mine.
“It’d be so much easier if I wasn’t in love with him,” he tells me. “Then we could be together and life would be simple.” I stroke my friend’s cheek.
“I know,” I say quietly. “But life is never simple.” Zac sighs and whispers,
“I love you, Banana Face.”
“I love you too, Monster,” I reply. We hug tightly and share another kiss. Then we make our way to baggage claim.
Zac’s POV
I’m driving again. Taylor and JD are in the back sitting close, having a whispered conversation. I feel a hand on my shoulder. I glance over at Andy, but quickly turn my gaze back to the road. She gives my shoulder a rub.
“Can I see your arm?” she asks gently. I nod and pull up my sleeve.
Andy holds my arm at the elbow and wrist. She turns it over to see the underside. I hear her make a clucking noise with her tongue.
“What am I going to do with you?” she says quietly. I pull my arm back and lower my sleeve over the healing red lines I carved into myself.
Andy lays her head on my shoulder, her arm going around my waist. She isn’t wearing her seatbelt…again. I pet her head.
“You know, it hurts me too,” she says quietly.
“What does?” I ask.
“Knowing you hurt. Seeing you hurt yourself,” Andy answers, rubbing my stomach. I sigh.
“There’s nothing I can do to change the situation,” I reply.
“Yes, there is,” she tells me. “All you have to do is tell him how you feel.” I shake my head.
“I can’t.” Andy sighs.
“We’ll work something out.” She kisses my jaw lightly. “I love you, Monster.”
“I love you too,” I sigh. Then she takes my hand in hers and rubs gentle circles into my palm.
Andy is by far my closest friend, even though she lives so far away. We tell each other everything. But there are a couple things I haven’t told her. Like the fact that even though I’m head over heels for Taylor, I’m hopelessly attracted to her. When we first met, Andy was seventeen and I was a few months shy of my fifteenth birthday. I wanted her, wanted her to be mine forever. Sometimes I go back to those days and wish that had come true.
