In July my gastroenterologist had me take a blood test to see if my liver was producing a certain kind of enzyme as a side effect from my medication. It came back normal so that was good. But today I got a letter from my primary insurance telling me that the test was experimental so they won't be covering it. Apparently Anthem doesn't cover investigational or experimental lab work. Like WTF? And the medical review doctor is licensed in FAMILY PRACTISE. To me that means he doesn't know shit about Crohn's Disease. And another thing: why would someone consider a test on my liver experimental when I've been having the weirdest liver enzyme tests ever for the past year?

I fucking HATE insurance companies. They're not in it to help people.

Just from doing medical billing for a year, I hate Anthem. They really don't pay for much of anything. The thing is, it's not experimental if you're on medication that could damage your liver, and therefore the doctor has to test for it, if he's doing his job. But the thing is, if they consider something experimental, then they don't give a shit. They actually have doctors on their advising board, and they will come up with excuses for the insurance not to pay something.

The thing is, NO insurance company is in the business to help people. They're in the business to making money and LOTS OF IT! Health care should NOT be for profit. It's not just the insurance companies, it's the hospitals that are trying to make money too. That is why we need health care reform. Health care reform does not mean free health care, so the conservatives and anyone else opposed to health care reform need to sit the fuck down and shut up.
