Summary: When Taylor loses his only daughter at a concert one night, a good Samaritan comes to his rescue…in more ways than one.
CHAPTER ONE
It’s nearing the end of the concert and it’s been a great show. But then again, Hanson always puts on a great show. Everyone claps and cheers as the song ends. That’s when I notice a little girl wandering around. She’s a tiny thing that looks not quite two years old. Then she turns around and I recognize her immediately. She’s Taylor Hanson’s daughter Penelope. When I realize she’s all alone, I cautiously go over to her.
I kneel down in front of Penny and smile.
“Are you lost, Sweetie?” I ask. She nods. “Do you know where your mommy is?” She shakes her head no. Then she points towards the stage and says,
“Dada on stage.” I nod.
“Okay.” I bite my lip. What to do? What to do? “Do you want to go wait for Daddy on the bus?” Penny nods. I smile, taking her hand, and lead her outside.
I knock loudly on the bus door, but no one answers. Luckily enough, the door’s unlocked. So I pick up the little blond girl and enter Hanson’s tour bus. I instantly notice a cell phone sitting on the table in the kitchenette. I pick up the phone, scrolling through the numbers hoping that Taylor’s phone number is stored in it. Penny’s playing with my dangly skull earrings and I’m about to lose hope when “Tay’s Cell” appears on the screen. Yes! I quickly hit the call button and wait.
The other line is ringing. But the show is still going on, so what are the chances he’ll pick up? Apparently the chances are good as I hear a desperate, “Jessie?”
“Um, hi, no,” I say. “But I think I’ve found your daughter. We’re on the tour bus.” there’s a pause. Then Taylor speaks up.
“You’re on the bus?”
“Uh, yeah. I’m sorry,” I apologize. “But I didn’t know what else to do. So, um, yeah.” I shrug to myself, biting my lip.
“I’ll be right there,” Taylor replies and hangs up. I look at Penny, who’s moved on to my necklace, and stroke her hair.
“Well, Daddy’s on his way,” I tell her. No response. I sigh and head to the back of the bus, hoping I can find something to entertain the toddler with, as I don’t know how long it’ll take for Taylor to appear.

PS: I liked this start. I always like fics talking about Hanson concerts because I haven't ever been to one.

Date: September 27th, 2006 07:30 pm (UTC)I know, I know. There's a lot of things that haven't been answered yet, but they will. And hopefully it'll be in the second chapter, which I've already started writing.
I'm glad you liked the beginning of this b/c I was having a hard time liking it myself. But after I posted it, I began to like it, so it's all good now. And I know how it feels to have never been to a Hanson concert. It took me until 2004 to get to one. And trust me, it's definitely worth it. So if you ever get the opportunity to see them live, I completely advise doing so.
Thanks for reading and thank you so much for your comments. They make me smile like this :D
