CHAPTER TWO

After the show, Cherry and Bella waited outside by the bus as a crowd lined up at the barricades. The only reason they didn’t have to be in that mess of people was because Tommy gave them all access stickers to wear. Bella thought it was nice not to be on the other side of the barricades for once. She even felt a little smug about it.

Cam was the first one out the door, waving to all the fans on his way past. But he stopped when he spotted the girls, going over to them and giving them both hugs. “How’d you like the show?” he asked Cherry.

She blushed lightly. “You guys were totally rockin’ it up there.” Bella grinned at the look Cam shared with her friend. They seemed to have really hit it off. Good thing they were both single… Cherry as of yesterday. Bella thought, whatever makes her happy.

Longineau and Monte came out next doing the same as Cam, going over to hug the girls and ask how they liked the show. Then the three went on to the bus for a minute to change their shirts and came back out to meet with the fans. Tommy came out of the building next and completely bypassed the fans to head straight to Bella. When he got close, he launched his sweaty body at her, hugging her tightly. Bella laughed loudly and squealed his name, which only made him hug her tighter. “Get your gross, sweaty body off me!” she giggled.

He gave her a cheeky grin saying, “You weren’t calling my sweaty body gross on Monday. If I remember correctly, you couldn’t get close enough to my sweatiness.”

Bella felt herself blush. “Well, okay, so it’s not that gross, but you were sweaty for a different reason on Monday, if I do recall.”

Tommy grinned. “Touché.” He grabbed her hand and kissed the back of it lightly. “I’m gonna change my shirt real quick and get a sharpie, okay? Then I’ll be right back out.”

Bella nodded. “Yeah, okay. Hurry back.” He squeezed her hand and pulled away, holding on to her hand for as long as he could as he moved away like he really didn’t want to let go. Then he was gone in a flash.

Bella looked at Cherry. Cherry had one perfectly manicured eyebrow raised at Bella. “What?” Bella asked, genuinely confused.

“You and Tommy,” Cherry said.

“What about us?”

“You know you guys make a cute couple,” she stated.

“Couple?” Bella asked. “We’re not…”

“Yeah, you are,” Cherry interrupted. “Whether you guys have labeled yourselves that or not, you’re definitely a couple. You both have those love-sick puppy eyes when you look at each other and dopey grins on your faces.”

Bella blushed. “Really?” she asked, kind of pleased with what her friend had just told her.

Cherry nodded. “Oh yes, definitely. It’s actually quite cute, especially on you. I’ve never seen you like this over a guy before. It’s nice.”

Bella chewed her bottom lip a little. “Well, you know about my past and usually I could never be like this around a guy. Guys were just…” She shook her head and Cherry nodded in understanding, rubbing her friend’s shoulder soothingly. “There’s just something about Tommy Joe,” Bella told her. “And Adam. They’re both just so safe to me. I don’t know what it is.”

“It’s called healing,” Cherry said.

Bella smiled a bit hesitantly. “You think so?” she asked.

Cherry nodded. “Definitely. I think you just needed to find the right guy… Or, ya know, guys.” They both giggled at that.

“Tommy’s amazing,” Bella told Cherry. There was a beat of silence. “Hey, if they’re staying here tonight, do you think it’d be okay to invite Tommy to stay with us?” Bella asked.

Cherry grinned at Bella. “Only if it’s okay if I ask Cam to stay too.” They laughed again.

“Well, in that case, maybe we’ll end up with rooms to ourselves with our men,” Bella said. “You can have our room if you want.”

Cherry waggled her eyebrows. “This is a great deal.”

Bella laughed. “Definitely.”

Tommy came bounding over just then, wrapping his arms around Bella tightly. “Hey, Pixie Baby,” she murmured in to his hair.

“Do you have to call me that?” he asked, making a face.

Bella pouted, sticking her lower lip out exaggeratedly. “What? You don’t like my pet name for you?”

He chuckled lightly, dragging his thumb over her lower lip. “You call me a pixie,” he said. “Isn’t that kinda like calling me a fairy?”

Bella snorted. “Would you rather I call you an elf?” she asked.

“Elf Baby?” Tommy tried out. “Yeah, I’ll pass. You can call me Pixie Baby on one condition,” he said taking Bella’s hand and lacing their fingers together.

“Yeah, and what’s that?”

“You have to promise to try to come up with a new pet name for me,” he answered.

She rolled her eyes. “Fine,” she agreed in defeat. “I promise.”

He grinned. “Now come on, I’ve gotta sign some stuff,” he said tugging her towards the barricades.

“Wait, you want me to come with?” she asked, anxiously.

“Yeah, why not?” he replied with a shrug.

Bella dug her heels in to the cement to stop herself from being propelled forward any more. “Tommy,” she whined. He turned around to look at her. When he saw her anxious look he stepped right up to her, frown lines creasing his forehead.

“What’s wrong, Bella?” he asked.

“I don’t really wanna go over there,” she answered honestly. “I don’t want to, like, make the fans jealous or whatever. They kinda make me nervous.”

Tommy pecked her on the lips and stroked her cheek soothingly. “I’ll protect you,” he murmured. And there was just something in the sound of his voice that gave her complete relief.

Bella smiled and nodded. “If that’s the case, I’ll go with you.” Tommy’s face lit up with a grin and he began leading her over to the wall of fans again.

Tommy smiled, made polite small-talk, signed things and took pictures with fans, all the while holding on to Bella’s hand. She thought it was amusing to see him try to sign things with only one hand, but somehow he managed to do it. She’d have rather he just let go of her hand, but he just wouldn’t give it up. It made her feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Like maybe he loved her, which would be highly unlikely since they’d only known each other for five days and this was only their second time seeing each other. But still, it was nice to think.

Along the way down the line of fans, more than a handful of girls asked Tommy who Bella was. Unfortunately all he did was smile and wink at them, leaving them flustered and forgetting they had asked in the first place. Bella thought ‘unfortunately’ because she really wanted to know what their relationship was. Were they friends? Were they more than friends? Or were they just friends with benefits? It’d be nice to know, she thought. Maybe it’s something we’ll discuss at a later date. But for right then, she was just happy to be holding on to his hand.

When they had successfully made about three passes up and down the line of barricades, Tommy waved goodnight and thanked everyone. Then he pulled Bella back over to Cherry who was now standing with Cam. “Hey,” Cherry said as they approached.

“Hey back,” Bella responded.

“So Cam here was telling me that tonight you guys are staying in a hotel,” Cherry said to Tommy.

Tommy nodded. “Yeah, the first time in days,” he confirmed.

“Well, Bella and I were talking earlier and we were thinking that if you guys were staying in a hotel that you’d like some company for the night,” Cherry explained.

Tommy raised his delicate eyebrows. “Oh really now?” he said. Bella grinned at him and nodded. “Well, Cam and I are sharing a room tonight, so we could really divide the rooms up between the two couples.”

Bella nodded vigorously. “Yes, yes, please do! Lets!” Tommy and Cam laughed at her eagerness.

“Okay, well, which couples get which room?” Cam asked.

“We get the room Bella and I booked,” Cherry explained. “And Tommy and Bella will be in yours and Tommy’s room. Bella and I already discussed it.”

“Oh you have, have you?” Cam laughed. Cherry and Bella grinned, nodding.

“So, um, why are we standing around?” Bella asked. “Can we get a move on?” The trio standing with Bella laughed. Then the girls followed the boys on the bus to get their things. They walked out of the parking lot and headed left since both the hotels were a little ways away from the boardwalk. Tommy kept his hand locked around Bella’s the whole time, even when she tried to let go to hug Cherry goodnight after grabbing her overnight bag. It just made that warm fuzzy feeling in the pit of her stomach grow.

Once back outside, they again go left, heading to one of the other hotels on the main stretch of road. “So which hotel are we staying in?” Bella asked as Tommy swung their hands a little between them.

“Um, the Hampton Beach Hotel,” he answered.

“Seriously?” I asked. “What room?”

“Um, sixteen I think. Why?”

Bella laughed. “Because that’s the same hotel and the same room JD and I stayed in the last time we were here for a show,” she explained.

“Holy fucking coincidence,” Tommy muttered in disbelief. “Are you sure?”

Bella nodded, grinning. “Yeah, I got cups back home to prove it.”

“Cups?” Tommy raised a curious eyebrow.

“Yes, I stole the little plastic cups they leave in your room,” Bella told him with a laugh.

Tommy gave her a sly grin. “Oooh, so my woman’s a bad girl. I see how it is.”

Bella laughed. “Your woman?”

She thought she saw a faint blush come over Tommy’s cheeks in the not so great street lighting. “Lets just call it wishful thinking,” he said. Bella grinned but didn’t say anything and the rest of the walk is spent in silence with only the sound of the crashing waves coming from the beach on the other side of the road.
