PROMPT #173: left behind

"Left behind. You were the first to find it. Left it behind. You couldn't help but turn away a mask that hides a face and the saddest eyes I have killed to save!"

I can only stare in awe at the five people on stage. They have energy and excitement. They get the crowd sweating as much as they are. I'm breathless from singing and dancing so much. I'm kind of surprised I haven't had to use my inhaler yet.

This band amazes me; and not just tonight. Every time I see them play, every show, every song, blows me away like the first time, two and a half years ago. Their music shakes me to the core. It speaks to my soul. Their lyrics are like a story and to see them on stage is to watch it unfold.

This band inspires me in so many ways. They inspire me to write, to sing like no one's listening and to dance like no one's watching. I have to say, they've inspired me to love myself for who I am.

But at the end of the night, I can honestly say it's one of the only times I don't want to go home. I want to stand with Alanna and listen to her talk because she always has a wacky story to tell.

Eventually the time comes when I do have to go home. Back to my mom and my cat. Back to my boring every day life. But before I do, I get something that I always look forward to when I see Medicated Kisses play, and that's a hug from Alanna. She gives the best hugs.

In the end, when I leave the show behind to snuggle down under my blankets for the night (and most of the morning), I'm left with one feeling: happiness. Okay, maybe two feelings, the other being contentment. On those nights that I see this phenomenal band play, I always go to bed with a smile on my face and my head calculating when I can see them again.
