CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX
Zac's POV
It's been three days. Three fucking days. Taylor and I have barely spoken and I'm not sure if it's my fault or his. After our mini-fight, I went to our bedroom to lay down and I ended up falling asleep. Taylor came in later to wake me up for dinner. He had cooked; even made my favorite. After we'd finished eating, in silence of course, we cleared the table and washed the dishes - in silence. Then we watched tv...in silence. And when it was time for bed, Taylor didn't follow me into the bedroom. He slept by himself in the guest room. I slept, or rather didn't sleep, in our room all alone. And it's been that way ever since.
We've spent two of these past three days in the studio. Taylor and I speak only when necessary and we can't get around it. Isaac knows something's going on. But I haven't told him anything and I don't think Taylor has either.
"Hello? Zac?" Isaac breaks me from my thoughts, waving his hand in front of my face. I look up at him.
"Hmm?"
"What do you think?" Isaac asks.
"'Bout what?" Isaac rolls his eyes.
"The song?"
"Which song?"
"The one I just played!" he exclaims. I shrink back into the couch a little.
"Sorry," I mumble.
There's a moment of silence.
"I can't take this," Isaac states. "I don't know what's going on with you two, but you need to fucking work it out already." He looks from me to Taylor and back again. I shrug.
"Tell that to Zac," Taylor says in a low, threatening voice. I frown at him.
"I'm not the one who's been sleeping in the guest room." Taylor glares at me, his nostrils flaring.
"Well whose fucking fault is that?"
"I don't know!" I cry, throwing my hands up in the air. "I don't fucking know! You made my favorite meal for dinner! I thought we were okay!"
"Okay?! Okay?! We're not okay, you fucking moron!" Taylor yells.
"And I think that's my cue to leave," Isaac announces. He grabs his jacket and exits the room.
I watch Taylor as he sighs and scrubs his face with his hands. When he finally looks at me, my eyes fill with tears and my lower lip trembles.
"I don't like sleeping in the guest room," he states.
"Then don't," I reply quietly, standing. I slowly make my way over to him, a tear trickling down my face. "Don't," I tell him. "Don't sleep in the guest room anymore. I can't sleep without you beside me." Taylor looks away, biting his lip.
Everything's quiet, but then my brother speaks.
"You said it," he says softly. "You're the one who said we should break up."
"I'm sorry," I whisper, reaching out to hug him. But he doesn't hug me back. The tears finally spill over as I pull away.
Taylor turns sad blue eyes on me and it only makes the tears fall faster.
"D-do you love me, Taylor?" I ask. He looks at me shocked.
"What?"
"Do you love me?" I ask again.
"Of course I do," Taylor answers.
"Then what's the problem? Are you ashamed of me? Ashamed of us?" Taylor just stares at me without a word. "That's it, isn't it?" I say. "You're ashamed of us. You're ashamed that you get off when your younger brother sucks your cock. That you like sucking my cock."
"Shut up, Zac!" Taylor yells.
I hug myself tightly, not knowing what else to do.
"Are you afraid Mom and Dad will find out? The fans?" Taylor's jaw clenches as he glares at me. He's quiet for a second. Then he speaks.
"You're right, okay? I am scared of them finding out. I don't want strangers who don't even recognize us to know we're together!" He takes a breath and puffs out his cheeks. "I'm sorry, Zac. I love you, but I'm sorry."
Anger burns painfully in my chest. My heart feels like it's shattered. My hands are balled into fists at my sides. I just can't take this.
"Why are you doing this to me?!" I shout. "Why?! You are my everything, Taylor! My whole fucking world! I love you! I want to marry you and start a family with you!"
"We're brothers!" Taylor exclaims. "None of that can happen, Zac! Never! Not even if same-sex marriage was legal!"
My bottom lip trembles and I feel like I'm going to pass out.
"But, but... I love you," I whimper. Taylor looks away from me.
"I love you too, Zac," he whispers softly.
"Then why don't you act like it when we're out? Why won't you just hold my fucking hand?" I ask.
"I can't do it, Zac. I won't. Get the fuck over it," Taylor growls, then storms from the room. I just stand there and cry.
