So the word around town is that people are missing being able to sprint. So I've decided that I'm going to host a sprint tonight. It'll be kind of short, but anyone can take over once I'm done if you want to sprint longer. So here's the deal:

WHO: Me and anyone else that wants to get their word count up!
WHEN: Tonight, July 18th, 2010 - 9:30 to 11:00pm EDT (first sprint @ 9:40!)
WHERE: FandomSprints via AIM
HOST: Me, [livejournal.com profile] writefiction (on AIM PandaPuNK7)

Hope to see a bunch of you there!!!!!

So tonight I sprinted by myself and ended up with a word count of 919 Go me!
If you don't understand what sprints is, I try to explain in the comments, so check that out.
I'm going to post tomorrow morning when I'll sprint again if anyone wants to join me.

Now I'm off to bed. Goodnight!

Writing sprints are when a group gathers in a chat room (for mine it was specifically on AIM in FandomSprints) and there's a host that tells you when to write and when to sit & chat. The writing part is the sprint. You'll write for 10 or 15 minutes depending on what the host says. You'll write as fast as you can and without trying to edit or hit the backspace. There's always time for that later! :D When the time is up, you see how many words you've written and enter the number in the chat. The way I do it, I keep totals of everyone's word count & announce our totals in the sprint post at the end of the sprint session.

Other sprint groups I've been in have done things like 5k Friday where, as a group, we collectively try to get the total word count up to 5,000 words. If we make it, we get prizes, like icons or songs, I even got an audio book one time.

In the end, it's a good way to be productive and socialize. It's a really fun thing to do. I'm thinking of turning this in to a community and hosting sprints a few nights a week. Also, anyone in the community can host sprints during a time when there are none if they feel like it. And this wouldn't be fandom based. Hell, you wouldn't even have to write fanfiction. You could write original fiction if you wanted. It doesn't really matter to me what kind of writing you're working on as long as you're having fun and getting your word count up. And also it's not like you have to come every single time and you don't even have to stay for the entire length of the session. It's laid back and relaxed. The only rule really is when you enter the chat, don't speak unless someone speaks first or says "hi" to you. If everyone is silent, they may be in the middle of a sprint.

I hope this was helpful. If it wasn't, let me know. Also, if you think this idea is cool and would want to join a community that would let you know when sprints are being scheduled, let me know. I may end up starting a community if people are interested. The more the merrier :D

This sounds like it might be fun. I'm not sure if I'd want to join a community until I've at least participated once to see how it goes and if I like it. Will you let me know when the next one you're hosting on AIM is going to be so I can try to go? :)

The more people there are, the more fun it is!
I'm hosting a sprint tonight actually. It's an early one @ 7:50pm eastern and the first sprint will start at 8:00pm. I'm probably going to go until 11. The chat the sprints will be located in is on AIM: FandomSprints

Cool. I will try to come if I can, though I've got a lot of things to do this evening. We'll see! If not, do you have any idea when your next one might be?
