Irene M. Irving
Peace activist and gift to us, gift to the world
Irene Meacham Irving, 92, of Havenwood-Heritage Heights in Concord, died peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, surrounded by a circle of family and friends.
Born Oct. 20, 1917, in Woodsville, Irene grew up in Concord and graduated from Concord High School.
She was the executive director of Merrimack County United Way from 1970 to 1985 and involved in numerous community activities. She was a Girl Scout leader and served on the boards of Swiftwater Girl Scout Council, Concord Visiting Nurse Association, the ABC (A Better Chance) Program, New Hampshire Central America Network, New Hampshire Habitat for Humanity and the Concord Clinic.
She was an active member of the United Methodist Church and served for eight years on the national board for Church and Society in Washington, D.C. She was peace and justice coordinator for the New England Methodist Conference. Irene was passionately dedicated to New Hampshire Peace Action. In recent years, Irene was involved with the Multi-Cultural Project in Concord and Islamic Center in Manchester.
Irene had very special feelings for Nicaragua, stemming from the covenant relationship between her church and la Iglesia de Cristo de Nicaragua. This relationship prompted no less than 15 visits to Nicaragua. Additionally, she arranged and traveled with three Bridges for Peace delegations to the former Soviet Union. As recently as this summer, she helped to organize Pastors for Peace informational caravans to Cuba for medical and educational supplies.
Many organizations benefited from Irene's tireless dedication and honored her. She received the Brotherhood award from the National Conference of Christians and Jews, the New England United Methodist award for Excellence in Social Justice Action, the International Affairs award from the Federation of Women's Clubs, Solidarity award from la Iglesia de Cristo de Nicaragua and the Servant Leader award for Outstanding Christian Ministry.
Traveling and meeting new people was a rewarding experience for Irene. She especially enjoyed a study trip to Israel, Egypt and Jerusalem, with her husband John and special friends. Spending time with her family, especially cheering at her grandchildren's many sporting events, was another much-loved activity. [link]
I hate when my grandmother comes to visit. I get so stressed out b/c she comes and won't tell us how long she's stating or what she's doing. I'm one of those people that needs a plan. She will not give us a plan no matter what. She was only supposed to stay the night or just stop in to potty on her way home from her trip. But now she's staying till at least tomorrow so she can look at frickin pictures with her friends who aren't coming to Concord until tomorrow.
She also likes to try and sneak a peek at my writing, which I hate sooooo bad. I write things sometimes that would make her hate me and I don't want her to read any of it. But I'm pretty sure when she was cleaning off the bookcase she was reading thru some of my stuff. I hate that! She knows nothing of privacy. I won't even turn the computer on when she's here b/c she likes to read over my shoulder. It stresses me so bad. Plus she likes to yell at me for smoking. But I sweat she makes me smoke mpre b/c I'm so stressed! I can't wait for her to go home.
And poor Buddy can tell she doesn't like him. She's the only person he doesn't really luke. He hides out in the other room until she moves into another room. My mom said she thought Buddy didn't like Grammie and I told her that it's b/c Buddy knows Grammie doesn't like him. That's another thing I can't stand b/c Buddy is such a good kitty. Like, extremely good. But whatever. Hopefully she'll be leaving tomorrow. If not, I am so going on that shopping trip with Mom and Jeff on Monday.

Apparently Nani is doing better. So that's good. She's out of ICU now, but I don't know when she'll be going home.
Michaels is having a dope sale on yarn this week and hopefully I'll be getting some for my Mindless Knitting, TV Watching, Super Scraps Afghan. I started it today. It's looking good so far.
Also, the other day when I went to michaels I got a 40% off coupon. Plus there was another one in the sale papers today! I'm rockin with the coupons this week. Hopefully I can get some more circular needles and lots of little balls of yarn to play around with for this afghan, baby afghan. Now shhhhhhh. I'm not supposed to tell anyone but............... My older sister Jessica is pregnant with twins! But we're not supposed to tell cuz she's less than 7 weeks and they've had a difficult time getting to this point. But anyway, I've taken a little time off from the KNITS for Kids thing to work on the baby blankets. My mom is also knitting a baby blanket.
Also, I want to start looking at cats for adoption. I know it seems really early, but I've been preparing for Logan's early demise since she was about a year old and we found out she had a heart murmur. Also, I've been wanting to get another cat since we put MnM down. And I don't know, but I think being with Logan when she passed helped give me, like, instant closure or something. I dunno. Maybe I just really miss her company and her bedtime cuddles. I kinda feel like I need a replacement.
See, the thing is, I'm disabled and can't work. Basically I'm home alone all day and my kitties were the ones that kept me company while everyone is at work. Now I don't have that. I've actually resorted to sleeping with my Clark's Trained Bear: Soggle aka Soggie Bear. Then tonight my mom's friend Mike brought me 2 cat Beanie Buddies telling me that he knew he could never replace Logan but hopefully these would help. He's a sweet guy. Now I know why my mom has been friends with him since high school :)
I'm off to sleep now.
Sweet dreams F-listers

[EDIT]
The afghan is actually called: The Mindless Knitting, TV Watching, Scrap User-Upper Afghan. Just thought I should get it right. =D
[/end][edit]
So here we are in Camden Maine. We actually made it. My little cousin Eliza was screaming and yelling when we called and told them we were 5 minutes away. We just finished setting up the stockings and my mom is writing a note to the kids from Santa. Now my mom is pulling out the couch so we can go to bed.
I would have written sooner, but I only now just got the password for the wi-fi. But I think I'm going to save it on my iPod so I don't have to always ask.
Well I guess this is it for now. We're getting ready for bed now.I'll try to update you tomorrow. So for now I'll just say goodnight.
Merry Christmas F-listers!!!!!
I love you!!!!!
Love Always,
amanda: jaclyn's twin sister<3
